How do I find my right bra size?

Your body’s shape and size can change quickly during pregnancy and nursing, which is completely normal. Each Calm & Co. bra includes a size chart to guide you, and our How to Size Guide page is a helpful step-by-step resource. For the best fit, we recommend measuring your underbust and bust before ordering. If you’d like extra help choosing, please Email Us our team is always happy to assist.

How should my bra fit?

A well fitting nursing bra should feel supportive but never restrictive. Here’s what to look for:

  • Bottom band: Should sit straight across your back. If it rides up, adjust the straps; if that doesn’t help, tighten the band or try a smaller size.

  • Band comfort: Snug but not tight, you should be able to slip two fingers underneath. If you can fit more, the band is too loose.

  • Cups: Smooth and filled without puckering. Extra fabric means you may need a smaller cup size.

  • Coverage: Breasts should not spill over or bulge at the top/sides. If they do, size up in the cup.

  • Straps: Should rest comfortably on your shoulders, not slipping off and not digging in.

Do sizes run the same across all styles?

Our bras are designed with different fabrics and silhouettes, which means the fit can vary from style to style. Because of this, we strongly recommend checking the size chart for each bra before purchasing. For example, you might be a medium in one style but a small or large in another, depending on the stretch and cut. Measuring yourself and reviewing the chart is the best way to ensure the right fit.

How will my size change after birth?

After delivery, your band size usually decreases back toward your pre-pregnancy size. At the same time, your cup size often increases by 1–2 sizes once your milk comes in. Your breasts will continue to fluctuate as they fill and empty with breastfeeding. That’s why our bras (sized S, M, L, etc.) are made with flexible stretch, to comfortably adapt to your body’s natural changes.

Should I buy a new bra while pregnant?

Absolutely! If your current bras feel uncomfortable, it’s time to size yourself for a maternity/nursing bra. Pregnancy brings changes to your breasts, ribs, and belly, so it’s normal to outgrow your regular bras. Our bras (sized S, M, L, etc.) are designed with stretch to move with your body and keep you supported throughout pregnancy and beyond.

What’s the difference between a maternity bra and a nursing bra?

Simply put, maternity bras are designed for comfort and support during pregnancy, while nursing bras include easy breast access for feeding, usually with drop-down or pull-away cups. At Calm & Co., our bras are made to work for both pregnancy and breastfeeding. With soft, stretchy fabrics, they adapt to changes in your breasts and rib cage so you stay comfortable at every stage.

When is the best time to buy a nursing bra?

The best time is whenever your regular bras start to feel uncomfortable, or when you’re preparing to breastfeed. Many moms find this happens during pregnancy, often as early as the second trimester, when body changes make it harder to rely on pre-pregnancy bras. Investing in a nursing bra early ensures you stay supported and comfortable as your body grows and prepares for feeding.

How do I wash and care for my bras?

To help your bras last as long as possible, follow these care tips:

  • Close all hooks and clasps before washing to prevent twisting and tangling.

  • Wash with like colors (beiges with whites, darks with darks) to keep colors true.

  • Handwash in cold water for best results. If using a washing machine, place bras in a lingerie bag and select the delicate cycle with cold water.

  • Skip the bleach, it breaks down stretch. If absolutely necessary, only use non-chlorine bleach.

  • Air dry only: reshape the cups, hook the back, and hang to dry. Avoid the dryer, as heat damages stretch.

  • Never iron: heat weakens the elastic and alters the fit.
